As we head into the finale for Hell’s Kitchen tomorrow night, the heavy favorite to come out victorious is Rock Harper. He is an executive chef up against a personal chef/nanny named Bonnie. One of the questions on many viewers’ minds is…if Rock is an executive chef, what does that mean? Where is he already a leader in the kitchen?
While Rock resides in Spotsylvania, Virginia, he is executive chef at B. Smith’s located in Washington, DC’s Union Station. B. Smith is a lifestyle corporation built around model turned entrepreneur and television personality Barbara Smith. In addition to her B. Smith With Style show, home style line with Bed, Bath & Beyond, and furniture collection, B. Smith also owns a line of 3 restaurants. She was recently recognized by Elle Decor as one of America’s 10 most outstanding non-professional chefs. To help maintain her name as a restaurateur, Barbara Smith has hired top talent like Rock Harper to run the kitchens in her restaurants.
What type of cuisine does Rock dish up at B. Smith’s? Since his promotion to executive chef from sous chef 5 years ago, Rock has put a contemporary stamp on much of the traditional Southern cuisine of the restaurant. Among his specialties are Spicy Barbecued Red Snapper and Swamp Thing, a mixed seafood dish over southern style greens in a mustard based sauce. Will B. Smith’s lose Rock Harper as executive chef to the Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas? Tune in to Fox Televsion tomorrow night at 9 ET.
